Morrigan Kavanagh is a 206 year old siren, a woman trapped by her supernatural origins, and unable to escape to anything but death. Although she is forced to kill, she mediates her guilt by only killing dangerous criminals, and only as rarely as she can. By day she works as a nurse at the University of Michigan's hospital, except on Mondays where she works at the clinic for supernaturals at Ann Arbor. Physical Description Morrigan could never be dangerous, no, not her. She’s just shy of the American average now at 5‘3“, but in her youth, she was considered quite tall for a woman. With red hair that ranges from reddish brown to just pure fiery red, and soft brown eyes, you would never suspect that she was born to kill those of the less fair sex. Slimly built, she’s still quick and as dangerous as she has to be. Yes, she might look like a Disney heroine, but no, you do not want to cross the invisible line that divides the male sex in her mind between harmless and prey. Her dress is slightly outdated, although vintage is rather ‘in’ so she skates by without any suspicion. At work, of course, she wears only the standard issue scrubs. [top] Personality If you did not know what her ‘hobby’ was on the side, you might be quite taken in by the friendly and quiet nurse. All of her neighbors think she’s ‘a dear,’ sweet and courteous. And, at her heart, it is true. However, this is more who Morrigan wants to be all the time than she truly can be. Sirens carry within them darkness that she can never flee, no matter how far or hard she runs, and gods know, she has tried. Uncomfortable and disgusted by what she has to do, that she must kill or be driven to insanity and death herself, the goodness she wants to be still has an influence. Morrigan never kills innocents, never attacks anyone who she has not deemed as a threat to others. And yet, still, she marks their deaths not as a triumph, but a necessary things. When on the hunt, she’s cold and emotionless, it is only later when she can wash off the blood that guilt tears at her. The stocked and locked chest that she keeps in her bedroom holds the blades she uses to kill, but her dismay over her true nature has her keeping it buried in the back of her closet. Out of sight and out of mind. [top] Strengths - Belief in Good Over Evil - This is what kept her from going on either a rampage or killing indiscriminately, that she wants to be good, that she does not want to be evil. While she has no choice in the matter of whether or not she has to kill, she can at least improve the world by only destroying those who wish to harm others.
- Care - While she has held many a different job over the centuries, they all seem to center around helping others in some small way. Some charitable work, some time spent at a hospital, she even was a protester back in the 1960s and 70s. In a way it’s part of how she tries to make up for what she cannot help, trying to pay back the world in some small way.
- Adaptation - To new technologies, new identities, new social realms, to remain somewhat blended into the modern world, she has had to learn to adapt and evolve with the times. This also helps in evading more than a few hunters over the years, who were told of a Siren in their vicinity by those nosy little bitch psychics.
Weaknesses - Murderlust - This is the big one. If not for this, Morrigan would be just fine, in her opinion. She cannot help herself, it is a biological imperative that she kills a male human every so often. The longest she‘s gone (since beginning her ’true path’) without was nearly a year, but the desire grew to be too much and she ended up killing several men in the space of a day instead of week or two.
- The Siren Draw - On the opposite end of the fact that she can draw men in on purpose, when distracted or in a heightened state of emotions, she can broad wave her draw. Which can get her into the odd sticky situation, with clingy customers, stalkers and those who wish to ‘keep her.’
- Limited Song - While she is able to affect the emotions and moods of men, she is completely powerless against women. While in the past this was not overly much of a problem, given that women were not held in high office (especially in law enforcement), now there are far more women in positions of power to resist her.
Special Skills/Abilities Over the years she’s picked up a few skills; how to survive a Victorian dinner party, how to mask the Irish accent that still lingers, or play it up (depending on the situation), swim (hey! That’s a great ability for a girl who lived far from any body of water), ride a horse, drive a car, she can even (gasp here) surf the internet. In the early 20th century, she attended college in the East to receive a degree in general medical science. Another bout of schooling in the late fifties gave her mostly useless knowledge of domestic skills. Slice a piece of cake, a throat… [top] History Before the Light of May Born the same day and year as a failed attempt by Robert Emmet to overthrow the rule over her home country of Ireland, it seems as if Morrigan was fated for a bloody life. Whether she liked it or not. Her mother kept her true nature a secret from her daughter, more for convenience’s sake than any other reason, until the girl hit puberty and she nearly killed a neighbor’s son. Upon running home to her mother and confessing to what she had nearly done, she was summarily informed of just what she was. Morrigan was horrified, she had never been a violent soul, and now she was driven to it against her will. At first the desire was not that bad, she could push it away and away again. As time passed, and she grew into a young woman of marriageable age, it slipped out of her control. The initial retrigger had been when she had run off from home at the age of sixteen, and was grabbed on the roadside by a robber. Only, he did not realize that he was the prey at the end of the day, not her. When she stood over his cooling body, his dagger in hand, she swore that if she was going to have to kill, she would only kill those who deserved it. That was 190 years ago, and even Morrigan has lost track of names and faces, only keeping track of the true numbers. A number that are reaching nearly 8,000 men dead. Despite the fact that she only kills rapists, murders, the filth and ills of the world, she cannot help but feel that she will never escape the blood dripping from her hands. The Irish Potato Famine drove her to England, at the turn of the century she moved again, this time to America. Well, just before the turn of the century, after wiping Jack the Ripper’s blood off of her arms and throat where it had spattered. In the time since, she’s been one of dozens of careers and traveled all over the United States. Morrigan has even attended college, twice. [top] After the Light of May For Morrigan, life has not really changed all that much. Well, except that the government now knows of her existence and wishes to hunt her down and vivisect her. But hey, no big deal, right? She hides in plain sight when confronted, posing as a were bird, since she does have a second form that betrays the true ancestry of the Sirens. Why the vampires decided to push the supernatural world into the limelight, Morrigan will never know, she simply wants to keep her head somewhat down and just get by in this world. [top] Siren Superb Fairy Wren Morrigan is a Siren. Powers: Siren Song: The call of the siren is nearly irresistable, and it holds their victims in their thralls until somehow released. Near Immortality: If they are good little sirens and kill males, they can live forever. Never age, never become less beautiful. [top] Weaknesses: While technically immortal, sirens must continue killing in order to survive. If they resist the urge for too long, they will grow old, lose their minds and eventually either snap and kill indiscriminately or die. Sirens can be killed just as any other human can, they have no defense besides their voice and their wits. [top] Miscellaneous Family & Living Conditions Family: Ligeia (Mother) - Little is known about her, only that (unknown to Morrigan), she was hunted down in the year 1916 and killed. Unlike her daughter, she was far less worried about good vs. evil, and more involved in time vs. beauty. ?? (Father Unknown) Living Conditions: A small house, more picturesque than anywhere else she has lived in her long life. The house and property was a present from an influential politician she used to get close to a society predator, it has been passed down to Morrigan after her ‘grandmother’s’ death. [top] Additional Information Her other form is that of a Superb Fairy Wren ‘Morrigan’ is the Irish Goddess of both Death and War[top] |
